FAQ
Questions
Everything guests usually ask before they arrive. If your question is not here, just ask.
The lodge
Where is Yuki-Jo?
In Shimo-goryo on the edge of Furano's ski area, 300 metres from the Kitanomine slopes and about two kilometres from the town's restaurants and shops. The forest of Daisetsuzan National Park runs along the back boundary. See Getting here.
How many people can stay?
Up to 18 guests in nine bedrooms, each with its own ensuite. Beds can be set up as doubles or twins to suit your group.
How big is the house?
The lodge has about 1,040 square metres of floor space over four floors, on a 1,375 square metre block with wide frontages and views of the mountains.
Are there instructions for the house in English?
Yes. A guide to the house is provided in English and Japanese, and your host will walk you through everything when you arrive.
Facilities and services
What do we need to bring?
Very little. Linen, towels, kitchen equipment, laundry appliances and slippers are all provided, along with a welcome box of groceries. Shops, cafes and convenience stores are within walking distance.
Can we cook, or hire a chef?
Both. The kitchens are fully equipped for everything from a Japanese hot pot to a roast. We can also arrange a private chef for a single dinner or your whole stay, at extra cost and with advance notice.
Is there housekeeping?
Yes, daily housekeeping is included. If you would rather not be disturbed on a particular day, just let your host know.
Is there wifi?
Yes, wireless internet reaches every floor of the house.
What should we wear?
Furano has four distinct seasons and the weather can change quickly. Winter gear is needed from late October to late April, and summer nights in the mountains are cool. Good walking shoes and a warm jacket are useful all year.
Getting here and around
Will someone meet us?
Yes. Your local host speaks English and Japanese, welcomes you at the lodge and is available throughout your stay. They will be in touch before you travel.
Can we hire skis and book lessons?
Yes. Furano has several good rental shops and ski schools, and your host can point you to them. Lessons can be arranged after you arrive.
Is there somewhere to store ski gear?
Yes, there is generous ski storage on the ground floor and a lift to carry heavy bags upstairs.
Should we hire a car?
You can, and there is garage space for four cars, but winter driving in Hokkaido needs care and experience. Trains, buses, taxis and private transfers are good alternatives. Book winter car hire well in advance.
Bookings and payment
Can we book individual rooms?
No. Yuki-Jo is booked as a whole lodge, and the rate is the same whether you use one bedroom or all nine.
Is there a minimum stay?
Seven nights in winter and four in summer. Shorter stays can sometimes be arranged at a higher nightly rate. See Your stay.
How do deposits and payment work?
A 10% deposit secures your dates, due within seven days of confirming. The balance is due 30 days before arrival. We ask for one payment for the whole group.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancelling 30 days or more before arrival forfeits the deposit. Cancelling within seven days of arrival, or not arriving, forfeits the full amount. Between those, please talk to us.
Do you arrange flights and ski packages?
We provide accommodation only. Your travel agent or Furano Tourism can help with flights, lift passes and packages.
Is there someone in Australia we can talk to?
Yes. The Yuki-Jo team is based in Perth, Western Australia. Call +61 8 9492 8970 or email info@yukijo.com.au.
