Yuki-Jo in winter

Furano, Hokkaido

Yuki-Jo, a snow castle in Furano

A private ski lodge where Japanese craft meets European comfort, 300 metres from the powder of Furano and on the edge of Daisetsuzan National Park.

EnquireExplore the lodge

Yuki-Jo means snow castle. It was built by a group of friends from Western Australia who fell for Furano over many seasons and wanted a place to share it: a whole house for your group, with room to ski hard, soak long and eat well together.

Traditional Japanese rooms, gardens and an indoor and outdoor onsen sit alongside a contemporary kitchen, lounges with mountain views and furniture made for the house in nearby Asahikawa. You book the lodge, not a room, so everything in it is yours for the stay.

Washitsu, the traditional Japanese room

Where east meets west

The house was designed by Sanei-Build Kogyo, a Furano firm behind several of the town's hotels and ski retreats. Carved timber from a historic temple greets you at the entrance; upstairs, tatami and shoji give way to lounges framed by the mountains.

It is a home first, built for long evenings together after days on the mountain.

Guest words

Yuki-Jo is quality all the way. It is fantastic to have a lodge like this in Furano, which is still quiet and unspoilt compared with the bigger ski villages. Spacious and luxurious, it is the perfect place for a business retreat or a family holiday with the kids.

YoshiTokyo

I loved the traditional dining room, the gardens and the onsen best. It was like stepping into another world.

Such a fantastic place to stay, and the snowboarding in Furano is just wicked.
